About Me

I am an emerging visual and new-media artist based in Vancouver, Canada. My artistic impulse arises from a fundamental need to cultivate an inner stillness amidst the overwhelming noise of contemporary life. My practice is rooted in the pursuit of presence: the continuous endeavour to fully inhabit the present moment. It is a form of personal meditation, of healing, self-exploration, and of learning.

The dominant currents in North American culture often feel like a forceful pull away from the inner sanctuary of the present. There exists a relentless pressure to conform to prescribed notions of success and desire. With more and more of our time being consumed in the hustle to afford the basic necessities of life, our attention is simultaneously monetized and bombarded by addiction-inducing algorithms and fleeting fifteen-second viral clips. Consequently giving rise to a sense of disconnection and isolation from ourselves, each-other, and the world around us.

Informed by this experience, my practice is a conscious effort to resist the cacophony of external forces and reconnect with a deeper sense of self through mindful attention to the present. My work invites the viewer to pause and contemplate, to share a moment of stillness and self-exploration with me. The images I create endeavour to translate the essence of the moment and to share the felt experience of the world around me.

My work and practice within these meditative states has naturally led to explorations in style, technique, and subject matter. With much of my work rooted in the photographic medium, I strive to capture scenes entirely in-camera, digitally manipulating the dynamic response of the captured image to create the finished works. My current work pushes to incorporate new mediums within my practice, to expand my explorations into more immersive experiences and connections.
